Hurricane Sandy, a child of Climate Change

Hurricane Sandy would not have happened without global warming. Why? Normally, hurricanes do not travel this far north this late in the season. Sandy was aided by unusually warm ocean temperatures. These temperature anomalies have become more frequent in recent years. These anomalies are the signature of climate change. Was climate change the only reason for Sandy's ferocity?  No, but the fingerprint is clear.

It's also clear that Sandy will not be the last "Superstorm".

A mass-produced 75 watt LED bulb you can buy

2012 brings a new way to save energy, the Philips 75 watt LED light bulb. You can buy one at your local Home Depot.

Advantages
1. Only uses 17 watts to produce 1100 lumens of light.
2. Has a nice warm color.
3. Lasts 22.8 years (predicted)!

Dis-advantages
1. Pricey at $40.00 a pop, but you only need one every 22 years ;-)
2. Requires an open fixture.
3. Looks weird, but so did the original Edison light bulb!

  • Saddened to hear of Anne McCaffrey's passing. She taught me to appreciate strong, intelligent women. #

  • Go Curiosity! The launch was the easy part. Landing on Mars is always the hard part. Many months of boredom then 30 minutes of terror. #
